PLANNING: SKILL DEVELOPMENT

Continuing to learn and develop career skills is an ongoing process. Identifying skills needed for advancement at Berkeley and opportunities for training is necessary for moving forward in your career.

I want to expand my skills and continue learning…what resources are available?

  • Online learning opportunities are now available through e-Learn. Access to e-Learn is available through the Blu Portal. Once you login with your CalNet ID, click on the e-Learn link in the Self Services section .
  • Berkeley encourages continuous learning and offers a variety of employee development programs.
  • Visit the Berkeley Job Builder website to learn about the skills, abilities and knowledge needed to be successful in a particular job on campus.
  • Identify jobs of interest through eRecruit and make note of the skills required for each position.
  • Attend a Job Search Skills workshop: Marketing Yourself For Your Next Job (Resume & Cover Letters), Job Interviewing, Informational Interviewing, Success Stories at Cal Panel, The Berkeley Way: How Campus Works and Your Career at Cal. To enroll in trainings and workshops on-campus, visit the Interactive Course Enrollment System, ICE.
  • To know the expected Competencies for your job, talk with your supervisor, look at your performance evaluation, or read the job description for the job you are interested in. You can also find a list of competencies for leaders, managers and supervisors at The Career Place.
  • CAL PACT offers free computer training to all UCB staff employees. Courses are two to three hours and involve hands-on training. Detailed handouts are provided with each class so exploration and learning continue back on the job.
  • Visit the Interactive Course Enrollment System, ICE to enroll in workshops sponsored by the Staff Ombuds Office. Workshops offered include Bullies and How to Deal with Them, Civility: Respect In Action, Communicating Effectively During Conflict, Dealing with Difficult Situations and Behavior in the Workplace, Email Civility and Introduction to Mediation: Facilitating Workplace Disputes.
