General FAQ
Does Career Compass apply only at Berkeley or at all the campuses?
We are developing the new system for Berkeley, and we keep the Office of the President and the other UC campuses informed about our progress.
Will this new job structure apply to staff that are represented by unions?
In calendar 2008, non-represented employees will be mapped to new job titles. Represented positions are subject to collective bargaining and will be mapped at a later date. We hope to apply the new programs to all staff. We have been meeting with AFSCME, UPTE, and CUE about the proposals we are developing.
When will the new job structure be finished?
New job titles, grades, and salary ranges for non-represented employees will be reflected in our HR system in late 2008, pending coordination with the Budget Office regarding when new salary ranges may be introduced. Our goal is to implement the new jobs for represented employees in a later rollout that will be coordinated with the collective bargaining process.
How have campus unions been involved in this project?
Our unions provide valuable insights with respect to employee interests and needs, and the campus is discussing the project as it progresses rather than waiting until the end. Our campus unions are working with the project team to identify workers to help identify key job responsibilities. The project staff and labor relations representatives will continue to work with unions as the project moves forward.
Will employees lose any vacation or other benefits as a result of Career Compass?
No, there will be no reduction in pay or benefits as a result of the Career Compass project.
